If you've upgraded from 2.5.4 or earlier to version 2.5.6 or later, your player database and saved tournaments and templates may seem to have "disappeared". Don't worry, they're still there. Here's how to get it all back.

Note: these instructions assume you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. If you're using Windows XP or another (earlier) version of Windows, see the instructions here.

Note: if you changed the Tournament Director shortcut to Run as Administrator, then skip steps 5 and 6 (that is, don't click the Compatibility Files button).

  1. On the Windows Start Menu, type explorer in the search input at the bottom and then select Windows Explorer from the list of Programs that appears above it:

  2. Windows Explorer will open, showing your Documents folder:

  3. In the Folders list, double-click Computer to expand it:

  4. Continue expanding folders in the following order: Local Disk (C:) -> Program Files -> The Tournament Director 2.

Select The Tournament Director 2 folder:

  5. Notice that the new button Compatibility Files appeared on the menu bar:

  6. Click the Compatibility Files button. The view immediately changes to a new folder:

  7. There you should see some familiar Tournament Director files and folders, such as db, saves, prefs.sav, prefs.fs, and possibly a few others, such as templates, receipts, sounds, etc.

Select all of the files and folders by clicking with your mouse button and dragging a box around all of the files and folders:

  8. Once the files and folders are selected, right-click on one of the selected files/folders and select Copy:

  9. Open a new Windows Explorer: on the Windows Start Menu, type explorer in the search input at the bottom and then select Windows Explorer from the list of Programs that appears above it

  10. A new Windows Explorer will open, again showing your Documents folder:

  11. Double-click the folder The Tournament Director 2 on the right to open the folder:

  12. Double-click the Data folder to open the folder:

  13. Right-click in an empty space on the right-hand side and select Paste:

  14. You should get a confirm replace confirmation dialog:

  15. Check the Do this for all current items checkbox at the bottom:

  16. Then click the Yes button.

That's it. Now close the Windows Explorer windows and launch The Tournament Director.
